Summary
Born Abraham Maddison, he is a runaway teenager's illegitimate child, instantly erased by forced adoption. Raised Derek Pedley, he is just a country kid with big ambitions to be a journalist. But after discovering adoption papers at age 15, he retreats into denial. Dark, destructive behaviours repeatedly unravel his life. When an anguished letter Abraham's mother wrote in 1972 arrives almost half a century later, it is the catalyst that gives Derek the courage to seek the truth -- about himself, his remarkable mother, and the system designed to tear them apart
