A head teacher's work is never done - especially if, like Jane Cowan, you are a victim of your own success. Having done well with Wrayford Primary, she's now added the headship of a neighbouring school to her responsibilities. She's also got involved with the village cricket team, with the distinct possibility of a handsome new man in her life. But before she starts her new job, she's hit by a car while cycling. The driver speeds away, and then the two witnesses, an elderly married couple, mysteriously disappear.
