Siobhán, a brilliant young marine biology student who, as part of her studies, must endure a week on a ragged fishing trawler overseen by a couple. She finds herself at odds with the close-knit, superstitious crew of "fishermen", and her red hair is considered bad luck. But out in the deep Atlantic, an unfathomable life-form soon ensnares the boat. When members of the crew start succumbing to a strange infection, Siobhán must overcome her alienation and win the crews trust, before everyone is lost
