Summary
Ming (Andy Lau) and Yan (Tony Leung) lead parallel lives: Ming is a Triad mole in the police department; Yan is a police stooge in mob boss Sam's (Eric Tsang) Triad gang. Both men have a desire to put their false lives behind them and take up their rightful places in a society that eludes them. One night, during a police raid to bring down Sam's mob empire, the two men's paths finally cross. Both the police and the mob soon realise that there is a mole amongst them, and a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues. This is the quintessential cat-and-mouse crime thriller. The film created such a box-office sensation on its release that it turned Asian crime drama on its head, setting the scene for a new wave of crime dramas for years to come. This wave quickly broke the shores of Hollywood with Martin Scorsese remaking the hit film into The Departed. Yan is a young police graduate sent deep undercover to infiltrate the Triads. Ming is one of Hong Kong's most decorated cops but is secretly working for the Triads. Neither "mole" knows the identity of the other, thus beginning a tense collision course where the lines between right and wrong become very blurred. Each one must choose between their jobs, their honour and eventually, their lives
resource.variantTitle
