Summary
The year is 2041, eight years post World War Three. Over half the population of Western Australia perished in a nuclear strike. Local militias are tasked with vanquishing outlaw gangs that are wreaking havoc throughout the State. Police authorise bounty hunters such as Archie O'Connor, a former contract lawyer turned soldier, to bring the most heinous criminals to justice. With his new apprentice, Fiona Katsaros, and his long-time friend Clary Ugle, Archie strives to survive this new world while preserving his morality and state of mind. After breaking up with her girlfriend and being forced to work as a skimpy barmaid, Fiona is endeavouring to begin a new life working as a bounty hunter, which she finds both liberating and terrifying. Clarence, a proud Whadjuk Aboriginal man, dreams of returning to the pre-war infrastructure so he can continue his career as a scientist. The main characters are tested emotionally and physically within an inch of their lives. Over four months, they perform missions involving capturing fugitives, guarding a water train against a band of thieves, joining a militia to free a town of enslaved residents, and rescuing a ten-year-old boy held captive by a maniacal scientist in a contaminated city. The team's vulnerabilities are exposed when their latest bounty develops into twists and turns of extreme violence and chaotic uncertainty
