Summary
When somebody survives cancer against all odds; there is often a remarkable, compelling story to be told. Dr Jeffrey Deslandes' story is one of these. He has a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, and was employed as an Environmental Manager with one of the world's largest resource companies... that was until 1999 when he was diagnosed 'out of the blue' with advanced Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The prognosis was bleak. After traditional treatments failed to arrest his disease, Jeffrey started looking for emerging therapies. He learned of a new medical treatment, where it was feasible to grow a personalised vaccine from his cancer, which would hopefully be able to harness his immune system to fight the cancer. Though unproven, Jeffrey made the bold decision to choose this treatment, rather than an autologous stem cell transplant recommended by his highly-trained lymphoma specialist. Jeffrey's progress from that day has been remarkable. He has had fifty-two injections over nine years, racking up enough miles to fly half-way to the moon in the process. He has been disease-free since, and is now approaching eleven years disease-free. It is a treatment free of any of the side-effects which are commonplace with chemotherapy. Jeffrey Deslandes is a living pioneer of vaccine therapies for cancer in Australia. The book title bears witness to his life, belief and remission."--Back cover
