Summary
SHORT STORIES. AUSTRALIAN. Thirteen tales from the pen of Fairlie Kingston, offering an artist's view on memories of childhood loss and wonder, a world of radiograms, Capstan cigarettes and money trees, drifting through a bad caravan of holidays, liver brick flats and matinee pictures at the Wintergarden cinema. Set in familiar suburbs of Sydney's yesteryear, this is a cat and dog world where there is a whiff of boiled cabbage, dusty hall runners and the scorecards of domestic enmity. There is a strange and familiar intimacy in these pieces that seldom fails to charm the reader. The stories are accompanied by work from the author's brother, Peter Kingston, who has drawn vignettes and moody colour pieces for each
